SYLF Environmental Science Research Competition Winners!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Environmental Science Research Bootcamp and Competition! After careful review and consideration from our judges, we are excited to announce that we have selected our winners! Congratulations to all who won!

1st Place: Handmade Coral Base (Team BNW)

Project Description: We researched about different materials for coral nursery bases. We did this because most coral bases use materials that pollutes or not common. In both cases most people couldn’t involve in coral restoration in any way. We found that eggshells provided the necessary components for nursery bases. And more importantly, it was a common and cheap material to recycle. So using eggshells, we made our own bases that are sent to Taiwan for testing. And we also inspired our community to donate eggshells and join the hands-on base making workshop to get everyone involved!

2nd Place: Plastic Pollution (Oscar H.)

Project Description: This research is about plastic pollution and I did an activity with a plastic bottle to do action by reusing the plastic bottle. The introduction is about the history of plastic, and my thesis is how does plastic pollution affect the planet. I researched to find out the answer of my thesis.

3rd Place: Protecting Biodiversity (Yeelan Z.)

Project Description: I am researching about Endangered Animals, and I read a few books about them to do my research. My research question is ‘What can we do to save them?’. Based on my research, I came up with 3 objectives, regarding pollution, poaching, and habitat conservation, and I brought up evidence to support my opinion. Taking action, I decided to write a book to spread awareness about the issue.
